Ingredients:
- 1.5 lbs ground beef
- 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1/3 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 lbs Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
Instructions:
- Combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Mix with a light hand until just combined.
- Press the meat mixture evenly into the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes.
- While the meat is baking, boil potatoes in salted water until tender. Drain and let them steam for 2 minutes to remove excess moisture.
- Mash the potatoes with butter, milk, garlic powder, and salt until smooth.
- Whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, and apple cider vinegar to create the glaze.
- Spread the glaze over the pre-baked meat layer, then swoop the mashed potatoes over the glaze to create rustic peaks.
- Top with shredded cheddar cheese and bake for another 20-25 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and the potato peaks are golden brown.
